Available Guinea Pigs

Adoption Policy »
  1. Before applying, review the page about appropriate CAGES (click here) . It is very important to us that your guinea pig has a proper size cage!
  2. We do NOT SHIP guinea pigs. You must be able to come to us for the adoption.
  3. We do NOT ADOPT to minors. Heads-of-household only can apply to adopt. Please do not apply to adopt if you are a minor living with your parents.
  4. We do NOT ADOPT to people who have other pets living outdoors (with the exception of horses and other farm animals).
  5. Review important guinea pig DIET information: What to Feed Your Guinea Pig.
  6. We have a "pairs policy". If you own a guinea pig, we are happy to help you find a compatible friend amongst ours. If you don't own a guinea pig, you may adopt a bonded pair or create a pair from our single guinea pigs. When you don't already own a guinea pig, we highly recommend adopting one of our bonded pairs - that way you know you have a pair that gets along, and won't run the risk of them not getting along once you get them home.

Fees »

  • $55 per neutered male guinea pig
  • $70 per spayed female guinea pig
  • $100 for bonded pairs (Pairs listed on the site together)
  • Unlike some other rescue groups, all of our guinea pigs are spayed/neutered and have been to a vet for a checkup prior to adoption. While the adoption fee helps to cover some of the vet costs, our expenses far exceed the adoption fees. Click Here to see why we feel that spaying/neutering our guinea pigs is so important. Not only does it control the guinea pig population, there are definite health benefits.
  • A contract must be signed at adoption time

Notice about adopting female guinea pigs:There is currently a higher demand for spayed, female guinea pigs than availability. There may be up to a two month waiting period after submitting an application. We are limited by which guinea pigs are available in the local shelters and availability of foster homes. We appreciate your patience when adopting.

  •

    Name:Aretha & Etta
    Sex:Female
Type: Tri Color/American Short Hair / Abyssinian
    Age: 3 Years , 2 Months
    Altered:Spayed
    Special Needs:YES

This sweet pair comes with curiosity as well as beauty. Aretha is very interested in everything that goes on in the room. Her foster mom says she is just nosy. Etta is more shy but is extra sweet. Coincidentally both girls have a permanent head tilt due to prior ear infections.

The girls are listed as special needs because Aretha has slight paralysis that prevents her from blinking and moistening her eye. As a result she gets an eye drop twice a day. They are wonderful girls and would love a permanent home with someone who has just a few minutes every day to make sure Aretha's eye stays healthy.

Templeton, Wilbur, Lurvey, Abel: A group of four of us share this story. Not long ago, there was a horse rescue going on, when somebody noticed a locked barn. Inside were us four adorable piggies! Charlotte the spider wasn't there to rescue this pig with words in her web, so MGPR stepped in instead. Adopt me as a friend for your pig to bring a little down-home country charm to your home!

  •

    Type: Brown Agouti/Crested

    Altered:Neutered

"Hi! I'm Honey "Houdini" Bunches. I was found outside by some nice kids and their mom who told MGPR that they had been trying to catch me for a week! I'm really glad I am in a caring foster home now, but be warned- I am an energetic pig full of wanderlust. I've been known to get out of my cage if it doesn't have a lid and can be pretty squirmy and nippy when being held because I really just want to explore! Even though I'm a pig that needs a little extra supervision, I'm sure I'll win your heart because I am packed with love and personality. And you'll win mine by giving me cookies."

    Age: 9 Months
    Altered:Spayed

Hello, I'm one of a group of guinea pigs fortunate enough to be rescued after being dumped in a park. A nice Animal Control Officer came to our aid just in time.

I am a smart and funny little guinea pig. I have a mind of my own (what woman doesn't?) and know what I like and don't like. Sudden noises startle me easily so I need a quiet and calm home. I started life kind of unsure and scared and so have a prior history of biting, so I can only be with a family without any children and who has prior guinea pig experience. I am looking for my dream guinea pig boy, too, with whom I can be paired up with to share my antics and treats.

Hi! My mom Abby was one of the Rock Creek Park pigs. I was born in an MGPR foster home and my foster mom says I have no "actual" problems. I don't know about that. New things make me nervous and I don't much like being picked up or lap time. The world is scary to a small prey animal. I have a lot of energy and love to run around my nice big cage with a friend.

He and his twin brother will race around their cage at different times during the day, I am not exactly sure what game they are playing but they do enjoy it. Cromwell is an inquisitive young boy he will sometimes jump up on his pigloo to take a look around.

    Special Needs:YES

Hello, I'm Petra. I am a very sweet girl and I'm very eager to find my new forever home. I've had some good-bad luck since MGPR found me. First bad luck was two nasty lumps that had to be removed (probably infected bites) Good luck MGPR thought I was well worth the surgery and after care. Next bad luck, I've grown cataracts in both of my eyes. I'm blind now. Good Luck my great foster mom Pam realized something was wrong. Now I've been diagnosed and they can find the right kind of home for me. I'm going to need one with older children that can understand that the world is a scary place for me without my sight. The next good luck is going to be you adopting me. Then I'll know the bad luck is in my past. Nose touch Petra. Hi Tucker here. I've had some good bad luck too but it's all looking up for me now that I've met my lady love Petra. Please consider adopting us we are to sweet pigs that are ready for our forever home.

  •

    Name:RC ZsaZsa
    Sex:Female
    Type: Silver & Black/Abyssinian
    Age: 1 Year , 7 Months

ZsaZsa was originally dumped in Rock Creek Park and found by the humane society then MGPR took her in. She was nearly bald from scurvy (lack of Vitamin C) and had 2 wee little babies. A boy and girl. She was nursed back to health and now has the most beautiful black and grey Abby coat. Her babies have been weaned and now she is spayed and ready to meet her Mr. Right! ZsaZsa has a lot of personality and loves to wheek for her veggies. She does "kiss with teeth" though and while we are working on stopping this, she may not be a good fit for a home with children. Please put in an application to adopt ZsaZsa today!

Hello, I'm one of a group of guinea pigs fortunate enough to be rescued after being dumped in a park. A nice Animal Control Officer came to our aid just in time. I am hoping for a nice friend and forever family to spend my life with.

I was one of the smallest of the Rock Creek Park pigs. The MGPR folks think I might have even been born in the park but I'm not telling. New things are scary for me and I don't much like being picked up or lap time. I admit I'm a little nervous and can jump and run unexpectedly so young children might not be a good choice for me. I have a lot of energy and love to run around my nice big cage with a friend.

  •

    Name:RC Zephyr
    Sex:Male
    Type: Tri-color/American Shorthair Silkie mix
    Age: 1 Year , 7 Months
    Altered:Neutered

Im quiet and shy, but opening up in my foster home. I come out looking for treats and petting of my soft, soft fur that ends in a silkie rat-tail like people sometimes wear. Im friendly and love to be held, snuggled in someones lap. Perhaps because I was abandoned in a park with several other guinea pigs, new noises and places scare me. Id rather have a blanket wrapped around me for security. Maybe when I find my forever friend, my quiet chirps will become more outgoing and my explorations outside my cage more courageous.

Hello! My name is Leia (my foster family calls me Princess Leia), and I am looking for a forever home. I am a spunky, lovable, happy piggy that LOVES being held by my family. I will come up to the side of the cage, and wait for someone to pick me up. If they don't pick me up fast enough, I wheek until they do! My favorite vegetable is carrots, and I MUST have one every morning, or my mom doesn't hear the end of it - I wheek until she brings me the orange happy snacks. I am so hoping that I can find a forever family, and a buddy that will make me happy. Can I be your princess?

Guess what PB stands for. Can you guess? Well the first thing my foster families little grandson said when he saw was "she looks like peanut butter" So just like peanut butter the name was sticky :) I'm going to need a bit of grooming on a regular basis. My beautiful hair is most likely longer than it is now. It appears to have been cut. So we will have to keep an eye on that. I'm a sweet girl and I will make a wonderful addition to your family.

I currently live with my sister PB She has the same hair issues. We are going to need some grooming that's for sure. I forgot to mention how super sweet and friendly I am. Adopt me and you'll find out for your self.
