Available Guinea Pigs

Adoption Policy »
  1. Before applying, review the page about appropriate CAGES (click here) . It is very important to us that your guinea pig has a proper size cage!
  2. We do NOT SHIP guinea pigs. You must be able to come to us for the adoption.
  3. We do NOT ADOPT to minors. Heads-of-household only can apply to adopt. Please do not apply to adopt if you are a minor living with your parents.
  4. We do NOT ADOPT to people who have other pets living outdoors (with the exception of horses and other farm animals).
  5. Review important guinea pig DIET information: What to Feed Your Guinea Pig.
  6. We have a "pairs policy". If you own a guinea pig, we are happy to help you find a compatible friend amongst ours. If you don't own a guinea pig, you may adopt a bonded pair or create a pair from our single guinea pigs. When you don't already own a guinea pig, we highly recommend adopting one of our bonded pairs - that way you know you have a pair that gets along, and won't run the risk of them not getting along once you get them home.

Fees »

  • $55 per neutered male guinea pig
  • $70 per spayed female guinea pig
  • $100 for bonded pairs (Pairs listed on the site together)
  • Unlike some other rescue groups, all of our guinea pigs are spayed/neutered and have been to a vet for a checkup prior to adoption. While the adoption fee helps to cover some of the vet costs, our expenses far exceed the adoption fees. Click Here to see why we feel that spaying/neutering our guinea pigs is so important. Not only does it control the guinea pig population, there are definite health benefits.
  • A contract must be signed at adoption time

Notice about adopting female guinea pigs:There is currently a higher demand for spayed, female guinea pigs than availability. There may be up to a two month waiting period after submitting an application. We are limited by which guinea pigs are available in the local shelters and availability of foster homes. We appreciate your patience when adopting.

Mean while we have been hanging around the rescue for almost a year.So we are hoping that someone will take a chance on us. Sex:Female
Type: Black / Brown Agouti/American Shorthair
    Age: 1 Year
    Altered:Spayed

Hello Im Alura. Im a lovely guinea pig with beautiful coloring on my nose. I came to MGPR with many very pregnant female guinea pigs. I gave birth about 10 hours after I arrived and I was very frightened. I didnt like the food at first, everything scared me and here I was with two babies to protect. Now Im finished with caring for my little ones and I need a nice forever home. I would prefer a quieter one and my humans might need to spend a bit of extra time with me before I blossom. I hope your home is the safe and secure one I crave.

  •

    Name:Shadow
    Sex:Male
    Type: Tri-Color/American Shorthair
    Age: 5 Years , 2 Months
    Altered:Neutered
    Special Needs:YES

Shadow is the most handsome old guy around! He is totally a people pig and loves to have snuggles with his foster parents. He may seem skittish at first, but he is more than happy to be picked up if he knows you're coming. He loves, loves, loves clementines. Shadow does have a slight "handicap" called impaction, which is a very low maintenance situation and not uncommon for an older male guinea pig. He is shy but seems to be interested in meeting other pigs - he just hasn't found his forever pig friend yet. He's hoping to meet you soon!

  •

    Name:Chiclet
    Sex:Female
Type: Red / white / Dk Brown Agouti/Crested
    Age: 1 Year , 1 Month
    Altered:Spayed

My name is Chiclet. Cute name for a cute girl, right? My foster mom says I purr a LOT when you pet me while I sit on your lap. I love chin rubs, too! You humans are magnificent for paying all this attention to me! I love my Oxbow treats. Who doesnt, right? Also, I like to kiss with my teeth, so my rescue group says only kids 12 and older can be part of my family. Hope to see you at the next adoption meet!

    Name:Favor
    Sex:Female
    Type: Tri-Color/Crested
    Age: 1 Year , 2 Months
    Altered:Spayed
    Special Needs:YES

Hello My name is Favor and I've had a bit of bad luck in my little life. When I was a little baby (4 months ago) the other guinea pigs at the pet store didn't like me much. They bullied and bit me. I ended up having to have two surgeries and a lot of care. The members of MGPR traveled 100s of miles to take care of me and get me the best veterinary care possible. Then I was still much too small to spay so I needed to be grown a little. Then it became apparent that my digestive system had been messed up by the many months of medications I was on, so that needed to be sorted out. Now I'm ready for a forever home. So I love to sit on my foster moms shoulder to watch TV at night and I'm pretty good at being secretary when she brings me in to the desk to work with her. She say's I'm spoiled rotten but I don't think so. I'm looking for someone that will continue giving me the attention I'm used to and I'll need a nice cage mate too. Please fill out an application to adopt me. I do still have one issue. If I'm stressed like being taken out for public appearances I tend to have soft poos. So I'm going to be a home girl for sure. Trust me I'm worth it.

Type: Brown Agouti & White / Blond & White/American Shorthair
    Age: 4 Years , 8 Months
    Altered:Neutered/Spayed
    Special Needs:YES

I'm Tucker, the handsome lad on the left. They say I have special needs but it's just that my poops can be a little soft. That's no problem, right? Boudica and I do have to be kept on paper bedding though - no fleece for us!

Boudica is my buddy and she's on my right. She's named after a warrior queen because she was left behind when her family moved and a kindly real estate agent found her. Boudica is very happy to be here with me now looking for her forever family. Together, we're an adorable furry pair of survivors who like veggies so much we'll sing for them! But I always get the biggest piece. Boudica and I hope to see you at the next event. We'd be a great pair for the first time guinea pig owners!

Hello, I've led quite the busy life until now. I came from a very bad environment. When I arrived at MGPR I was toting two tiny babies and already had 5 more in the oven. Wait until you see me my coloring is very interesting. The pigture does not do me justice.

This is an appropriate nickname as Im certain everyones galaxy must revolve around darling me, does it not? Im a smart, observant little one and nothing goes unnoticed by me so you are best off making sure to keep up the veggies and treats as I am paying attention. I am sleek and solid and love my snacks (who doesnt, right?). I have a cute little crest at the top of my head which only adds to my natural beauty. Joanie is a great little piggy who needs a home that can be patient with her. She is very nervous around people, and really needs to find a family that can be understanding with her, and help her to learn that people really are good. She needs a family to love her, a piggy friend to live with. She is labeled as 12 yrs + because she's still afraid of people, and needs steady hands holding her. She loves to have her chin scratched during lap time, by the way. : )

I have been busy training for the guinea pig Olympics. My favorite activities are running, running through an obstacle course, running into my pigloo, and running to grab leafy treats. The minute I hear your voice I'll be telling you it's time for my veggies because, when you're an athlete you have to take excellent care of your body.

  •

    Name:Mercury& Stutz
    Sex:Male
Type: Black White Blaze/Silkie & Shorthair
    Age: 2 Years , 2 Months
    Altered:Neutered
    Special Needs:YES

Well things didn't turn out quite like the rescue thought they would with us. We had been surrendered in a very large herd and standard protocol is to separate the males into single cages at the shelter we went to. So MGPR ended up with a few of us. To begin with we were in separate areas in the foster home but after some other pigs moved on we were put in a split cage. It was immediately apparent to our foster mom that we were buddies. We were totally gleeful to be near each other. It's very rare for MGPR to put boys together that were not in the same cage at the shelter. So our foster mom needed a second opinion. She transferred us top another home still in a split cage and that mom saw our deep affection for each other too. So here we are back together again and ready for a true forever home. We do have one small issue. I (Mercury) have soft poos. My behind needs to be checked every few days to be sure things are "moving" right. So we will be happiest on bedding not fleece.

  •

I'm an outgoing little fellow that's always ready for a head scratch and cuddle. Bala is a bit more shy but she doesn't mind being held once you catch her. We had a super great home with loads of attention before so we will want to be super spoiled in our new home too. Is that your home? If so please fill out an application to adopt. You won't be sorry.

Hi! I'm a young and energetic little boy who would very much like a forever home and a nice girl pig to spend my life with. Like all very young pigs I require careful handling since I am still wiggly and prone to startle easily. Special care should be taken when I am picked up or put down so I don't leap from your hands and get injured. I am learning to enjoy lap time and will settle down nicely with the attention of my forever family.

Hi there. Well I've had quite a difficult time until I found MGPR. But they have gotten me back on my feet and I'm ready for a new life. I was surrendered to a shelter. The shelter was informed that I was loosing weight. They discovered a lump on my side and decided that I had cancer. They tried as hard as they could but they just couldn't get me to eat on my own. They were ready to euthanize me when MGPR called. When I arrived at MGPR I was a real mess. I couldn't eat, I couldn't lay down, I was in a little ball of pain hunch / fluff. Not only that but I was peeing blood. Right away they got me to one of their vets totally expecting that I was suffering from the dreaded bladder stones. My x-ray was a total surprise and told quite a different story. I had a broken back. I had been left to suffer week after week in terrible pain from an injury that was not disclosed to the shelter. Once they got me on some pain medication and a joint supplement everything changed. Now I am going to need to take a supplement the rest of my life. It's called Fluid Action HA liquid. I take it very nicely for my foster mom. You will also need to handle me a bit gently but aside from that I'm all healed and ready to rock and roll. I do still have my lump but the veterinarian says it's nothing to worry about. I guess we should address my age too. No age was given on my surrender papers. I could be anywhere between three to five. It's hard to tell with me because of the injury.Oh and the pee thing. The doctor thinks that what ever happened to break my back also bruised my kidneys causing the blood, that cleared up too.

I am a very sweet little girl just looking for my forever home. I am curious about my surroundings after I feel safe to come out and play. I love my leafy greens, however, I'm still not sure about vegetables besides carrots; I take a few nibbles out of the peppers & cucumbers I am given. I currently live with a small chatty dog so I know about barking, but it's not my favorite sound.

I am a wonderful girl looking for a forever home with your boy. I enjoy floor-time and will come out once I know it's safe. My foster mom has a small chatty dog so I am familiar with barking, but I do not like it. I eat all my leafy greens but haven't figured out what veggies I really like. I try a few bites of peppers and cucumbers, but I like carrots.

My name is Tikka. I'm a gentle soul, calm, beautiful, a total love and extremely sweet. I'm not bragging - this is what my foster mom tells me :) I'm shy at first but that's partly because I am living by myself now as my best guinea pig friend recently passed away before I came to MGPR, so I'm missing them. I'll come out of my shell most when I have a special new friend with whom to share my life and veges. I respond to my name and talk to you when you call me. Now that I've been in foster care a couple of months on my own, I'm starting to feel more comfortable hanging out in my cool habitat without hiding, but once I have a confident new friend, I'll be lots more confident, too. I am calm when sitting on laps. My foster mom tells me I'm a guinea pig with all the checkmarks! I think that must be a good thing! Hope to meet you soon.
